Royal Air Maroc, CEMAC sign aviation accord
Libreville, Gabon (PANA) - A senior executive from the Moroccan
air company, Royal Air Maroc and the executive secretariat of the
Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) Thursday
signed an agreement in Libreville to launch the sub-regional
airline, Air CEMAC.
The accord is regarded as a decisive turnaround in the launch of
activities of Air CEMAC, which has been on the drawing boards
since 2001.
The six CEMAC member states -- Cameroon, Central African
Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon - unanimously
chose RAM as the future airline's strategic partner.
Royal Air Maroc pledged to supply between two to three long haul
and medium range planes to transport passengers and goods in the
sub-region.
"This is a general agreement, which outlines the major
principles," explained RAM's managing director, Mohamed Berrada,
who signed the agreement in Libreville.
CEMAC's executive secretary, Jean Nkuete, who co-signed the
document, explained that separate accords would be signed with
the six CEMAC member states taking into account their specific
needs.
CEMAC leaders promised during their last summit 11 February in
Libreville to give air traffic rights to the proposed airline in
their respective countries.
